Schisandra Berries (Schisandra chinensis) -Is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) used for various liver ailments, with a focus on its hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, and antioxidant properties. Schisandrin A and B: These lignans, found in Schisandra berries, have been shown to possess anti-fatty liver effects, particularly in animal models of high-fat diet (HFD) induced fatty liver. Improved Lipid Metabolism: Studies suggest that Schisandra berries can improve abnormal metabolic profiles in the liver, including ameliorating lipid metabolism and elevating deficient amino acids in Non-Alcohol Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Schisandra berries have antioxidant properties that can help protect the liver from damage caused by free radicals and oxidative stress.  A study found that Schisandra extract significantly decreased alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) levels in individuals with NAFLD, along with improvements in quality of life indicators. In the case of Alcohol-Induced Fatty Liver: Schisandra has been shown to protect against ethanol-induced fatty liver by reducing elevated serum ALT and AST levels, decreasing lipid levels, and alleviating hepatic lipid accumulation.

Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) - Licorice has shown potential to help treat fatty liver disease, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcoholic fatty liver disease. Licorice can reduce inflammation in the liver. Licorice can help regulate lipid metabolism and reduce fat accumulation in the liver. Licorice can help protect against oxidative stress, which can contribute to liver disease. Licorice can improve liver function and biochemical parameters like alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST).

Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale) - Ginger contains bioactive compounds, such as gingerols and shogaols, which may exert anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-oxidative effects. These compounds may help reduce fat accumulation in the liver, Improve insulin sensitivity, lower inflammation, and protect liver cells from damage. Several studies have investigated the effects of ginger on fatty liver disease. A few key findings include: A clinical trial in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NALD) found that ginger supplementation reduced liver enzymes and improved insulin sensitivity. Another study in people with NALD showed that ginger powder improved liver fat and decreased inflammatory markers.
