Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) - The active ingredient in milk thistle is known as silymarin, a chemical extracted from the seeds. Silymarin is actually a group of flavonoids (silibinin, silidianin, and silicristin), which are thought to help repair liver cells damaged by alcohol and other toxic substances. Studies show that silymarin may help ease inflammation and promote cell repair. This may help ease symptoms from liver diseases like jaundice, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and fatty liver disease.
Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale) - Dandelion root may help stimulate bile production, which can aid in liver detoxification. It may have antioxidant properties that protect the liver from damage caused by free radicals. Some studies suggest that dandelion root may have anti-inflammatory effects that could reduce liver inflammation.
Artichoke Leaf (Cynara scolymus) - Some studies indicate that artichoke leaf extract may improve liver function in individuals with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Research suggests that artichoke extract can help suppress symptoms of liver disease, such as increases in serum lipids and bilirubin. Artichoke leaf extract may have antioxidant effects that could contribute to overall liver health. Animal studies have shown that liquid extracts of artichoke roots and leaves may demonstrate an ability to protect the liver, potentially even helping liver cells regenerate.
Fringe Tree Bark (Chionanthus virginicus) - Fringe Tree can be taken for liver and gallbladder disorders, including gallstones. It stimulates bile flow, relieves fluid retention, and acts as a tonic.
Red Root (Ceanothus americanus) - Red root is an excellent lymphatic cleanser That may help for liver congestion.
Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa) – Wild Yam can strengthen the liver, improve digestion, and reduce cholesterol.
Tumeric Root (Curcuma longa) - Turmeric may have a beneficial effect on liver enzymes. It might reduce some symptoms of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
