Turmeric (Curcuma longa) – Tumeric has excellent cholesterol lowering capabilities and reduces LDL levels. It can act on blockages and damage in the arteries and repair them. Tumeric prevents blood clots, is an anti-inflammatory, lowers risk of heart disease, regulates blood sugar levels.
Ginger Root (Zingiber off.) – Ginger Root is a cholesterol-lowering, anti-inflammatory blood thinner. Seems to lower blood sugar in some people with diabetes. Higher doses are more effective. It might take about 2-3 months before benefits are seen.
Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre) - Gymnema can significantly reduce triglycerides as well as total cholesterol and LDL “bad” cholesterol in diabetic patients. Contains substances that decrease the absorption of sugar from the intestine. Gymnema may also increase the amount of insulin in the body and increase the growth of cells in the pancreas, which is the place in the body where insulin is made.
Garlic (Allium sativum)– Garlic lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It is a vasodilator, lowers blood pressure, prevents arteries from hardening, and reduces mortality rate of heart attack victims.
Alfalfa (Medicago sativum) – Alfalfa helps reduce cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of diseases associated with elevated cholesterol like heart disease. It works by reducing the level of lipids found in the blood.
Fenugreek Seeds (Trigonella foenum-graecum)- Fenugreek seeds have been used for diabetes for centuries. Some studies show it can lower blood sugar after eating. Early research also suggests that fenugreek may lower “bad” LDL cholesterol.
Psyllium (Plantago affra)- The fiber Psyllium is a great cholesterol-buster and part of a healthy diet. Fiber also helps lower triglycerides and total cholesterol, especially for people with type 2 diabetes.
