Saw Palmetto – (Serenoa repens or Sabal serrulatum) Saw palmetto is an herbal product used in the treatment of symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The active component is found in the fruit of the American dwarf palm tree. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of saw palmetto in reducing symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Saw palmetto appears to have efficacy similar to that of medications like finasteride, but it is better tolerated and less expensive.
Couchgrass Root – (Agropyron repens) Couchgrass is used to soothe inflammations of mucosal linings, particularly in the urinary tract. It is used in the treatment of cystitis, prostatitis, and urethritis, and also to relieve pain of enlarged prostate and kidney stones.
*Do not use Couchgrass if there is edema from heart failure or kidney insufficiency. Excessive use of Couchgrass may lower potassium and blood sugar levels in the body.
Stinging Nettle Root – (Urtica dioica) Improves urine flow, helps the bladder to empty, and eases most of the common prostate symptoms including urgency. It is a prime remedy for BPH. Stinging nettle root works by reducing the sensitivity of androgen receptors and inhibiting enzymes, resulting in lower testosterone and less of the symptoms caused by its excess. Stinging nettle also binds to and increases sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) which then lowers free testosterone.
Cornsilk - (Stigma maydis) Cornsilk extract treatment improved BPH symptoms by inhibiting the mRNA expression of 5α-R2 and decreasing the amount of 5α-R2, DHT, and PSA in serum and prostate tissue. Cornsilk is recommended for the urinary tract.
Yarrow – (Achillea millefolium) Yarrow is used as a urinary tract antiseptic, majorly indicated for the treatment of infection in the bladder (cystitis). Yarrow is used to cure urinary tract infections, restore the tone of the bladder, ease the spasms of the bladder, confront incontinence, and support the treatment of bladder cancer.
